Arsène Wenger has hit back at claims that he should not have sold two established players to Manchester City.
Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure have both left Emirates Stadium this month to join the star-studded squad Mark Hughes is assembling at Eastlands.
Although the transfers represent excellent business - both players were sold at a substantial profit - Wenger has been criticised for strengthening a team which could challenge Arsenal for a Champions League spot this season.
The accusation was put to the manager at his pre-match press conference on Friday and Wenger was quick to defend his transfer dealings.
“I always say when you come to the decision to sell a player you can’t on top choose who you want to sell them to," he explained.
"If you decide to sell he can choose where he wants to go otherwise it would be completely unfair.
"If they are becoming a main rival I cannot stop it with a decision to sell a player or not. If they don’t buy from you they buy another good player from someone else. Nobody can stop a club fighting for the top four and if they are a rival they will be the same for Man United, Liverpool and Chelsea. What is most important is we stay strong.”
Adebayor's future had been the subject of speculation since last summer while Toure was linked with a move in January. So why did Wenger eventually decide to let both players leave?
“This kind of process depends always on the players you sell, on the number of players you have behind, the overall quality of the squad and you do not want to go public too much why you make these decisions," he said.
"They are always difficult decisions but that’s part of our game and we lost two great players, but we have as well, great players behind and that’s up to us to show during the season that we still have the quality to fight at the top level.”

我没真正看过chamakh踢球
他真的有那个牵制对手的能耐和力量吗？
而且技术似乎不怎么样
我们也不能要求一个一季进10球的前锋进来吧
这个倒不如好好地培养Bendtner会更好
怎么说上一季提升Bordeaux的是Gorcuff
如果真的引进他
我想中场也会有很多的震荡
甚至于球队的踢法也会有所改变

Senderos应该会被卖掉一个失去信心的球员最好的选择就是加盟其他球队
这或许会让他迎来新的春天
Djourou就不知道是替补还是首发
因为Gallas是有实力的
问题只在于Gallas和Vermaelen是同类型的球员
这个需要拭目以待了
Silvestre将会是万金油
毕竟他的速度完全跟不上去
还有一个就是Song
越来越有进步
技术比上一季有提升
重要的是信心
他的信心不错

Philippe Senderos signs for Everton

The remarkable tug-of-war between Arsenal and Girondins de Bordeaux over Moroccan international striker Marouane Chamakh shows few signs of abating, but the whole saga could be wrapped up in double-quick time if the English side meet the Ligue 1 champions’ valuation of the player.
Jean-Louis Triaud, the president of the Aquitaine club, has confessed as such to the AFP news agency. However, he does not seem too hopeful that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger will raise his bid.
“I dare not tell you the number,” Triaud stated, mischievously, when probed about Arsenal’s opening offers, thereby hinting that the English club’s bid was some way off that expected by les Girondins.
Nevertheless, Triaud does seem confident that a conclusion to the impasse can eventually be reached, as Chamakh has repeatedly expressed his desired to play in the Premier League, noting, in the past, that turning out for the Emirates Stadium club would be “a dream”.
“Because it is Arsenal is guaranteed,” the president stated.
“We must believe that Arsene Wenger knows the true value of a player of talent, which, for now, is not the case. If he should make an acceptable offer, it is necessary that fast.”
Chamakh was one of the key men in Bordeaux’s title-winning campaign last term.
